In last week's Living Life daily quiet time essay, it said, "Faith is a fight against your own self."
In the movie "Champion", an aspiring world champion boxer Kim Deuk Ku's coach tells him, "Stand in front of the mirror; boxers are supposed to look in the mirror more often than beauty pageants because that's where your opponent is. You are to fight that person you see in front you in the mirror. The only person you have to defeat is yourself."
One person who fought a fierce fight against herself is ballerina Kang Sujin. A picture of her feet made headlines as they hardly looked like feet of a woman. She got up every morning at 5 and practiced 18 hours each day, and every day she woke up with her whole body aching from practicing so hard. On days when her body ached less, she blamed herself for not having practiced as hard as she should have.
In any field, those who are at the top have always had to face a fight against themselves.
The same goes for Christians who are living a life of faith. We don't fall because the world is evil; we are defeated in the battle against our own selves. Christians must deny themselves and like the quote (by Kim Changok), “flowers of pride must fall in order to bear fruits of character”, we can't bear any fruit as long as our ego deeply rooted in our sinful nature is still alive.
We must remember that we can live victorious lives through the fierce battle we face against the person in the mirror. Let us live victoriously as we look forward to the day when we come face to face with Jesus as champion Christians.
This week's message
We have added extra seats to our morning service. There are no designated seats so please fill the seats from the front when you arrive. There are more seats during the 2nd afternoon service and we welcome anyone who wishes to join us then.
