          • People with thin ears

There is a saying in Korean, ‘to have thin ears’. Those whose ears perk up at what others say and are easily swayed by them are described as having ‘thin ears’ The central nerve system in the brain is stimulated by the noise we hear. There are of course good things we can hear, but there is also a lot of negativity we are exposed to such as criticism, false information, stories that create prejudice and misunderstanding about others, and things that can test our faith. Ultimately, if you have ‘thin ears’, you lose your sense of discernment and end up with a relationship disorder.
One thing I find sad in my ministry is that there are people who don’t take much notice of God’s Words but are easily influenced by what others say regardless of whether they are telling the truth or not. Those who speak without discernment of course are at fault but those influenced by them will have problems in their relationships with others and won’t be able to experience success in their lives.

Please remember the following four points to avoid having ‘thin ears’:
First, God gave us two ears and not one so we can hear everything around us before making judgement, so make sure you listen to both sides of the story before you jump to conclusion.
Secondly, if there are two people with conflicting arguments and you are unable to discern who is correct, think about who is generally more reliable. We must not doubt or criticize others based on what someone says if that someone has not been proven reliable.
Thirdly, for a healthy community, we must discourage negative speech. Even if you don’t agree, the more you hear negative things being said about someone or something, the more likely you will start feeling negative towards them.
Finally, if someone has been wrongfully accused you must stand up for them. Being neutral in a conflict is not always the right thing to do.

            This week's message
Let us gather together to pray. After last week's sermon on "Do not be discouraged, but pray", many people came to the Wednesday Prayer Service and prayed. Praying is not a one-off activity but it must be done consistently. Let us gather together to pray for God's compassion to fall upon lost souls, our families and mokjangs and our workplace.
