The phrase “survival of the fittest’ is being re-translated to say ‘survival of the note-takers’. One thing successful people have in common is that they constantly take notes. Note-taking won’t guarantee success but it is better to do so than to not since it allows you to gather your thoughts and plan.
Note-taking helps me a great deal as I prepare my sermon each week. If I hadn’t taken any notes, writing out my sermon from scratch on Saturday would be a huge challenge to me. I experience the power of note-taking as I take out my notes I had scribbled, just like taking out paper money from my wallet. There are numerous smart phone applications that can be synced to tablets and smart phones which makes it all the more convenient. I like to use an app called ‘Evernote’ and it’s very useful in preparing my sermons and collecting information from various sources. I see people taking notes during service and this shows how much they value the sermon and shows their effort to try and remember what they have heard.
If you’d like your faith to grow but you feel that you lack biblical knowledge, I suggest being a ‘mokjang sermon instructor’. This person summarizes the sermon and shares it in their mokjang meeting. If you do this every week, you not only gain biblical knowledge, it helps your faith grow as well.
I advise everyone, not just the sermon instructor, to try note-taking during sermon. It will help you focus better and understand better. I pray that God will work in us so that the brief notes we take during sermon will help transform our lives.
