The rate of change is relevant to the frequency of dedication
One of the three axes of the house church is service. In mokjangs, we deal with emotions, life study bible classes teach us knowledge, and the service deals with righteousness, leading people to transformation and growth. This is why the service needs to not only be powerful, but it also needs to lead people to the place of dedication after service.
The rededication time at the end of service is a time for new people to register as a member of the church, apply for baptism, etc, but it is also a time for existing members to make prayer requests and to put into action what they have learned and realized through the day’s sermon.
Houston’s Seoul Church’s Pastor Lee Soo Kwan says that ‘the rate at which people’s faith grows is relevant to the frequency of their participation in rededication.’ He explained that ‘those who requested for prayer and rededicated themselves experienced change and growth in their faith more often than those who didn’t.’ ‘Those who had been Christians for over 30 years were still experiencing change, and this corresponded with how often they rededicated themselves after service.’
This is the power of dedication. Most people leave the church after service saying ‘that was a good sermon, it was beneficial’, and it usually ends there. On the other hand, when people are able to apply the sermon and confess their problems to God, they have the strength to overcome their issues. And when they apply the sermon in their lives and decide to specifically target an issue, the service does not stop there but gives them strength to transform. The place of dedication has the power of the holy spirit that can’t be explained. Your attitude changes when you are there, and I also feel God’s presence when I lay my hand on people’s heads to pray for them. And I see God at work when I look back at the prayer requests during dawn service and pray for them. Ultimately, the history of the Sydney Crystal Church has been made through the countless dedications we have made. Over the years, we have repeatedly come forward to the place of dedication and cried as we met with God and experienced his grace, making commitments to God… the traces and tears have given us the power to transform and to make history.
