Our church has a dedication time at the end of the service. Dedication time is for showing your will to live by the word of God. Many of us decide to do something, but unless we put it into action right away, it gets forgotten. Likewise, a touching sermon can be easily forgotten once we leave the church. That is why it’s important to express the grace God has shown you immediately, through dedication. By dedicating yourself every week you will see yourself transforming little by little.
Dedication time comes after benediction- those who wish to dedicate themselves come to the front of the room with their dedication card and pray while waiting for the pastor to come and pray for them individually.
Newcomers who have decided to attend church will also need to make commitments to undergo baptism or attend the accepting Jesus meeting. And existing members of the church will also have things to rededicate themselves to, and prayer requests to make, according to what God has told them.
There are two types of re-dedication. First is dedicating yourself to church ministries (praise and worship, teaching, testimonies, intercessory prayers, etc.) and training (bible study). Second is dedicating yourself to a spiritual decision to live a victorious week by the word of God. For example, “I will pray at dawn this week for xxx”, “I will ask xxx for forgiveness”.
If you have prayer requests, you can write it on the dedication card. For instance, you can write “xxx is undergoing surgery this week. Please pray for him/her.” If you need to further explain your prayer, it is advised that you fill it out before service so that you are not rushed at the end.
Sometimes I see re-dedication topics written as prayer requests. For example, “Please pray for me so that I will wake up early and not be lazy.” “Please pray for me that I won’t tell lies.” These fall under re-dedication rather than prayer requests.
