Two years ago, I was inspired by a praise and worship ministry pastor Jang Jong Taek’s ‘Honest Prayer’. At the time, a movement started in which people did not just say that they would pray for someone when they received a prayer request, but actually prayed for them.
Kwak Insoon mokja spoke last week at a testimonial rally I attended, and he mentioned ‘sacrificial prayer’ in his testimony. Everyone can say that they pray. We say grace before a meal, we pray when we are walking, at work, whenever we remember to pray- and this is a way to stay close to God. However it is not enough to experience spiritual power. In order for us to experience spiritual power and overcome trials, we need sacrificial prayer.
Through the testimony, I heard God’s voice telling me that what you and I need right now is sacrificial prayer. ‘Sacrificial prayer’ refers to praying at a designated time and place. It becomes a sacrifice when, despite our busy schedule, we set a time and place to pray four times a week. This is a part of the pledge mokjas and moknyos make when they first become a mokjang leader. Mokjang leaders can quickly become weary when they only serve physically. The only way mokjang leaders and their members can live spiritually is through sacrificial prayer. The only way for mokjang members to overcome problems in their lives is through ‘sacrificial prayer’. If you are too used to leading a prayer-less life, please remember that when you are faced with trials, you can break down instantly.
Please join in ‘sacrificial prayer’ by designating a time and place. God will reward the obedient with his grace. The best place for prayer is the church. I recommend praying for at least 20 minutes during the Wednesday service and dawn prayer. And praying at dawn at church during the week. If your circumstances do not allow this, please set a time and place that suits you and pray.
