Just as a new addition to the family brings the greatest joy in a family so does the birth of a new life (new spiritual life) in a mokjang. Their birth itself is great joy, but when they mature and develop, the happiness is even greater.
When an unbeliever who had never been to church before or hadn’t accepted Jesus is baptized and completes both Living Life and the Survival Kit, their mokjang celebrates by having a hug ceremony.
During Sunday service, everyone in the mokjang hands the person a rose and hugs them. Afterwards, the person introduces their mokjang members to the rest of the congregation. They first introduce whoever led them to the church, and then mention something they are grateful for or something they admire about each member.
How actively the mokjang is running and being put to use by God is shown through baptism (being reborn) and the hug ceremony (a transformed life). If they have grown through being served by others, it is now their time to serve.
There aren’t many opportunities to introduce your mokjang members to others, so the hug ceremony lets you talk about them and also boast about them. Parents feel proud when their children boast about them. Likewise, nothing makes a mokjang happier than seeing someone who otherwise would have died boast about Jesus and their new spiritual family.
I pray that we will have many hug ceremonies this year and the joy of saving souls and making disciples continues.
