Last weeek, I preached on the topic of ‘A church preparing for the future’, and once again, I’d like to summarize three things a church must do for its future.
First is the purpose of the church. A church has many roles, but it must focus first and foremost on ‘saving souls and making disciples of them’. Global missionary is essential but we must also be able to save souls in our daily lives here and now. In order for this to happen, the Sunday service, mokjang meetings, and Life classes must actively operate, we must experience holistic changes, more people must be baptized and more testimonies must be given.
Secondly, we must sow seeds for the next generation. The church’s future is dependant on how we prepare for the next generation. With the majority of churches experiencing a decline in the number of children attending, it’s imperative that a strategy is implemented to grow the next generation. This is an important calling we must follow with families, mokjangs, and the church joining together as one.
Thirdly, we need to prepare ourselves to be a Christian with a calling. The church’s calling is to prepare its people to be an influential, powerful Christian not only at church but out in the world. The church must continue to make disciples who refuse to have mediocre faith but willingly carry out their calling as chief priests who connect the heaven and earth.
I pray that by looking ahead and picturing the fruits we will bear in ten years time, we can more proactively participate in mokjangs and education ministries.
