Are you sacrificing yourself in your service and commitment?
This is a story from California, America. A girl named Laura runs away from home and her mum does everything she possibly can to find her. She finds out that Laura has become a sex slave in another city. She goes there and desperately looks for her daughter but to find her is like looking for a needle in a haystack. She decides to make a poster with a picture of Laura but she hesitates, ‘What if this poster embarrasses Laura? She may never be able to get married.’ After thinking long and hard, she decides to put her own photo and name on the poster. ‘This woman in the photo is desperately looking for her daughter.’ And a while later, Laura, realizing how much her mum loved her, comes back. “Better that I’m humiliated than my daughter,” was what the mother was thinking and this is what real grace is.
When you serve someone, or do them a favor, being calculative or not being considerate of them can cause them to have resentment or disappointment towards you, so it’s important to always ask yourself when serving others, am I sacrificing myself? Is God’s power working through me?
