Not everyone can be equally good at mokjang ministry. Everyone has different gifts and talents, but we all feel disappointed when our mokjang doesn’t grow. In order to encourage those who are currently facing this disappointment, I’d like to share a few characteristics of flourishing mokjangs.
First of all, they open up to each other. Once you can trust your mokjang enough to share from your heart, it makes you want to continue coming, and this leads to strong attendance in the mokjang. On the contrary, if the mokjang likes to preach and lecture their members, people will eventually stop coming when they feel they don’t have the opportunity to express themselves and are only being lectured. When there is a lack of trust between mokjang members and their mokja, and if they are not entirely comfortable with each other, it’s difficult to have authentic fellowship and therefore many stop coming.
Secondly, specific help is provided. Mokjas think of different ways to help and serve their mokjang members. VIPs come to mokjang meetings when they receive help and are touched by the generosity. However, when there is no sacrifice and only calculation amongst the members, problems arise. One of the reasons people who have lived in Australia for a long time don’t come to mokjang meetings is because they have stability and don’t require others’ help. Be aware, however, when people only seek help and only expect to benefit from their mokjang, this isn’t healthy because they will most likely stop coming once their problems are solved and no longer need help.
Thirdly, experiencing God through prayer is essential for an effective mokjang. Unbelievers want confirmation of God’s existence and the only way to prove it is through answered prayers. When mokjang members lay their hands on their sick children and experience healing, when people find jobs after praying for employment, they will realise that God truly does exist and will eventually accept Jesus.
Once these three are achieved, you will have no trouble having people show up to your meetings and your mokjang will flourish.
