When you first start a mokjang, you have expectations for what it will bring, and talking and getting to know each other is fun. After a couple of years, however, it becomes harder to enjoy. People start complaining about having to meet every week and preparing food every time. Some blame the head pastor for the system. When this happens, pastors and mokjas who don’t have a strong belief in the house church being a New Testament Church allow flexibility of meeting every other week and sharing snacks rather than a meal. Does this kind of flexibility make house churches easier to run and reduce complaints? It doesn’t. Mokjang meetings become harder to manage and people continue to complain. Mokjang meetings become less enjoyable and more of a burden not because we meet too frequently or because we have to cook and prepare foods but because the purpose of the church- saving souls- is not taking place. A mokjang is fun and gratifying when souls are saved. Souls are saved when mokjang members love one another and unite as one.
Despite any challenges you may be facing in your mokjangs, I urge you to follow the system and to focus on saving souls by serving and loving one another.
