The smartphone has brought many changes to our lives- positive changes such as convenience, but also negative ones. What are your thoughts on reading the Bible on your smartphone during Sunday service?
There are positive aspects of using the Bible app, one of them being that you have access to the Bible wherever you are. But seeking convenience can sometimes hinder your faith. A brother confessed that he found himself distracted by his phone which hindered him from focusing on the sermon. If we play with our phone and check messages during service, we won’t be able to give our full attention.
The convenience and the accessibility of smartphones is undeniable, however they are also one of the biggest distractors.
During service, we need to seek self-control over convenience. Otherwise, there will be Christians who don’t own their own Bible, and our next generation won’t even know the sequence of the books in the Bible.
I believe during Sunday service we need to bring our physical Bible to church and use it, and everyone should own one. And we can take advantage of the accessibility of the Bible app on our smartphones during the week.
