When members of our church pray about something and don’t receive a response from God but face even more difficulties, I see them go through a spiritual struggle. Does God really exist? Or does He not love me? These are questions many of us ask at some point in our lives. And it reminds me of babies crying for attention, oblivious to their mother’s struggles.
God listens to our prayers and answers them, like a parent who can’t give enough for their children. He says through prophet Isaiah, “The Lord’s hand is not so short that it cannot save; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God”. We need to go beyond just asking God for favors and treating him like a magician with a magic wand.
Building a relationship with God needs to come first for Christians. Understanding God’s will and His guidance needs to be our priority. Then, even when your prayers aren’t answered the way you would have liked, you will be able trust that God knows what’s best for you and will lead you in the right direction. Without this faith, unanswered prayers can cause you to doubt and fall for trials and even if God DOES answer your prayers, you’ll distance yourself from him until you need something else. From God’s perspective, our problem is not the situation or the circumstance we are in that we are praying so hard about, but the relationship we have with Him in which we try to take advantage of Him and His powers. I pray that your relationship with God is no longer about seeking your desires but developing a more close, intimate relationship with Him.
