I went to NZ’s South Island last week and it was such an inspiring time for me to be able to experience firsthand the beautiful landscapes I’d only come across in pictures. The sound of the rivers flowing through the snow-covered mountains, emerald-green lakes, and the green fields filled with grazing sheep- I highly recommend going there with your family.
In the middle of the beautiful and blessed land of South Island is a city called Christchurch. Despite its beautiful name, the city is still recovering from a huge earthquake that occurred seven years ago. A lot of thoughts ran through my head when I saw the collapsed cathedral and the wreckage of other heritage buildings. It was as if the people in South Island were saying through the destruction, “the reason we are suffering is because the city has turned its back on God.’
A pastor ministering in NZ explained that despite the city’s name ‘Christchurch’, homosexuality and pedophilia first started here before spreading to other parts of the country. Next to the damaged cathedral stands a small church made out of cardboard and it’s a symbol of hope that the beautiful city of Christchurch will be restored to being a God-centered and church-centered city. It also made me realize that a truly beautiful and blessed life is one that is church-centered and led by Jesus.
