          • Appreciating relationships
In order for the train of happiness to run in our lives, we need to first build a train track called relationships. When we look back at the difficult and heart-breaking times in our lives, they all involve relationship breakdowns. Conflicts in the family, painful divorces, losing loved ones and the grief and devastation that come with it, misunderstandings and anger between colleagues or friends, disharmony within the church; they are all results of broken relationships. On the other hand, what are some of the happiest, most rewarding moments in your lives? They all stem from good relationships. Warm hugs from your parents, spending time with friends on a warm spring day, the moment you first set eyes on your significant other, the nights you stayed up with your small groups sharing your thoughts- they all come from having good, healthy relationships.
As such, we experience unhappiness when our relationships deteriorate. Adversity and unhappiness is the fruit of broken relationships. On the other hand, a happy, successful life is the fruit of healthy relationships. When we stop appreciating the relationships we have, our lives become bitter, our hearts become cold and we stop being grateful or respectful of others. And it’s not entirely up to us to protect our relationships. Satan is often responsible for destroying them and we can only achieve healthy relationships through Jesus Christ, the Lord of our lives. We need to believe and accept that broken relationships can only be restored through Jesus and that it is only possible when we look to him and live an obedient life.
