Hallelujah, wishing you heavenly blessings for the new year.
I am currently visiting Korea for my father in law’s funeral and by God’s grace, the funeral went well. I would like to thank all those who have prayed for us and comforted us during this time.
My wife comes from a family of unbelievers. But now, many of her family members have become Christians and their ancestral rites they had firmly followed have been replaced by worship services and her father’s funeral was also led by his pastor.
As I saw “RIP: Deacon Hong Kwangho” on my father in law’s tombstone, the title “deacon” written on the stone seemed more glorifying than ever. Before he believed in Jesus, he would punish my wife for going to church, as she was the first one to become a Christian in the family, but once he became a believer and was baptized, he changed the family tradition of having an ancestral rite to having a memorial worship service, and he opened the path of faith to his descendants by showing them that they belonged to a family of believers through having a Christian funeral when he passed away. God’s Words ““Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” (Acts 16:31) had come true.
I learned through the guests at the funeral how much good he had done in his lifetime. In a world where we’re too busy to look out for others, he had helped those in need, with his actions and not only speech. He had spent his whole life living out the message, it’ is more joyful to give and to love than to receive and be loved.
A new year, 2017, has begun. What will 2017 have in store for us? For all of us, today is a gift from God and we will all face the last day of our lives one day. I believe that in order to live an unregrettable 2017, we should try harder to love, to give, and to serve.
I hope God’s overflowing grace and blessings will be upon you and your family in the new year.
