Because there are a lot individuals living together in a community, many incidents can occur. God gives the Israelites the law so that they, who did not have any law to start with, can one by one, solve the issues fairly and justly. The law takes into account one's circumstance and equally and justly suggests a solution.
Wherever they are, God does not want a community of love to fall apart because they quarreled over a problem.
In whatever situation I am in, instead of having self-centred thoughts and pursuing my own gain, I need to seek God's help through the Word so that I can solve issues wisely.
Passage to read: Exodus 21:28-36
28 “If a bull gores a man or woman to death, the bull is to be stoned to death, and its meat must not be eaten. But the owner of the bull will not be held responsible.
29 If, however, the bull has had the habit of goring and the owner has been warned but has not kept it penned up and it kills a man or woman, the bull is to be stoned and its owner also is to be put to death.
30 However, if payment is demanded, the owner may redeem his life by the payment of whatever is demanded.
