What is something I find more valuable than Jesus?
A rich young man did many good deeds and kept all of God's commandments as he lived but still he had no assurance of eternal life. This young man, who had possessed many materialistic things, did not uphold Jesus as the one who was truly valuable and instead, could not put down the worldly values that he was still holding onto.
Because the Kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, the person who finds it will sell all they have and buy that field. To give us eternal life, Jesus, who is more valuable than anything in this world, came down to Earth and offered his life to us on the cross and through this, he showed us his endless sacrifice and love for us.
Let's have a desire to lay down our worldly values, remember Jesus's sacrifice and love and follow Him.
Passage to read: Matthew 19:13-22
20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
