          • The attitude of mind for victory

Today’s passage from Deuteronomy explains the attitude of mind the Israelites are to have when going to battle. Being equipped with the right weapons and having a great strategy is important but the most important of all is having the right attitude of mind.

The kind of attitude they are to have before a battle is ‘to not be afraid’ and ‘to turn their eyes to God’. Realistically, the Israelites wouldn’t have been able to defeat their enemy, but they won because God, whose power is all-surpassing, were with them.

The same goes for our lives. When we look at the reality, we are unable to conquer the world, but when we believe that Jesus, who defeated the world, is with us, we can have victory. When we refuse to be afraid of the world and turn our eyes to Jesus, we can expect surprising victory in our lives today.

            Passage: Deuteronomy 20:1-9
1 When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you.
2 When you are about to go into battle, the priest shall come forward and address the army.
3 He shall say: “Hear, Israel: Today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them.

            1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
            2. What is God’s message to you?
            3. What do you need to obey?
            4. What are you grateful for today?
