          • About Kitchen Duties and Sunday Meals

Our church used to have a beautiful culture where all members took turns to prepare meals and everyone participated in cleaning up and washing their own dishes. However, with COVID-19 restrictions, the worship services became divided up and some difficulties arose. Sunday lunch became centred around only a few people in the kitchen ministry team devoting themselves in preparing the Sunday meal every week. However, I think there are hardships with only having a few committed members serving in the kitchen ministry. So, I am bringing about some changes, as detailed below. The purpose of this change is to enable everyone to participate in ministry together.

            1. The categorisation of kitchen ministry: Kitchen ministry will be divided by assigning a person to be in charge over each of the services. For first service: responsibility for preparing simple snacks and tea/coffee. For second service: responsibility for meal preparation, tea/coffee, cooking rice, preparing kimchi. For ANW: snacks. The kitchen ministry will be divided like this and a person in charge or a team leader will be appointed over each of these ministries.

            2. Preparation of Sunday lunch:

            1) Meal preparation by team – first, a 52-week Sunday meal schedule will be made. Individuals or teams (2-4 people who want to form a team together) can volunteer and choose to serve on birthdays, various anniversaries, events, etc or choose a desired Sunday to serve. The person or team preparing the meal can be introduced on the kitchen bulletin board and congratulations given to those who have a celebration. Our church has a lot of chefs, and chefs can form a team.

            2) Meal preparation by house church – For weeks that are not filled by individuals or teams, house churches will take turns to serve in meal preparation. For now, if possible, house churches that attend and participate in Sunday lunch will be prioritised, and if there are shortages, house churches participating in the 1st service will also be participating. For first service, house churches who attend first service can take turns in preparing simple snacks and tea/coffee. There will also be a person in charge of snack preparation for ANW.

            3. Meal preparation and method: Meal preparation and snack preparation will be limited to the expense limit that has been approved in the budget for the kitchen ministry. A basic food manual will be prepared so anyone can easily prepare a meal (for e.g. seaweed soup, soybean paste soup with cabbage, vegetable bibimbap, etc).

            4. Washing dishes and cleaning up afterward: In general, each person will be responsible for washing up what they have used and consumed. The only exceptions are: new families in meetings, VIPs, visitors, and seniors with reduced mobility. Final cleaning up after everyone is finished will be done by house churches on rotation.

The above contents can be discussed and expanded or refined by team leaders responsible for these areas in the kitchen ministry team.
