          • Purple jacaranda trees and our church’s anniversary
The purple jacaranda flowers, known to herald in spring in Australia, beautify our streets as they bloom. The flower language of the jacaranda is “bright happiness”. As the trees pass winter with bare branches to then bloom into bright and beautiful flowers, it brings happiness to the hearts of those who see the purple flowers in full bloom.
I remember a church member once said that when the purple Jacaranda flowers are in full bloom, it reminds them of the church’s anniversary. Since hearing this, I too, am reminded when the purple jacaranda flowers start to bloom, that the church’s anniversary is approaching.
This week marks the 44th anniversary of our church and I am thankful that the government restrictions have been lifted so we can all come together to celebrate. This year, I think about those who have worked hard up until now to build up the church beautifully. During this year’s anniversary, we will be holding retirement ceremonies for those who have worked hard in serving as elder, deacons and deaconesses (Elder Ho-Hyeon Lee, Deaconesses Heung Sook Lee and Chan Soon Jung and Deacon Woon Gi Jang). Thank you for your hard work and prayers for the church’s operations and ministry.
At this year’s anniversary service, I would like to invite those who have been unable to attend Sunday Worship Service and the VIPs of our house churches to come to church and celebrate together. The church will be holding a sausage sizzle and preparing a gift for all the VIPs attending.
Our lives and hearts have been locked down due to covid, and just like the Jacaranda tree fully blooming with beautiful purple flowers, I hope that next week’s anniversary service will be a time when we can again bloom and it brings happiness to many people.
