          • We must now be proactive in managing and overcoming COVID-19

COVID-19 has not only affected our daily lives but also our faith. As we have been worshiping online and have not been able to have proper mokjang gatherings and Life Bible classes, we have become spiritually complacent. I’m sure there are people who are hesitant to attend church and mokjang gatherings due to COVID-19, especially if they have only just started believing, or if they are VIPs.
Many of us want COVID-19 to disappear and for our lives to go back to normal but experts are saying that even if a vaccine was developed, it would take another one to two years for our lives to settle. Ultimately, we will co-exist with the virus for at least the next two to three years. If this is the case, we must do more than fear the virus, otherwise, our faith and our lives will be wasted away, trapped in COVID-19. Rather than running away from it, we must be proactive in managing and overcoming it.
For example, driving a car is dangerous and many people are injured or they even die whilst driving. However, we don’t give up driving because of our fear of it. We put ourselves at risk to an extent. The annual number of deaths in Australia caused by driving was 1146 (based on 2019). Currently, the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 is 106. The number of confirmed cases in NSW is very little and there haven’t been any more deaths for quite some time.
This does not mean we should take the virus lightly but it’s not worth wasting our lives for two to three years hiding in fear of it,
The church is a community of faith. We cannot lead a life of faith away from a community. It’s only possible when we worship together, pray together, and have fellowship. We do not know how much time we have but it is an opportunity for us right now to once again restore our fellowship in our mokjangs. Please follow the rules and manuals set by the church when having your mokjang gatherings and try to come to church for the Sunday service rather than worshiping at home online.

This week’s message: Please continue to wear your masks and practice social distancing inside the church hall and also outside after service.

This column has been rewritten based on Pastor Lee Sukwan’s “Let’s not hide but overcome.”
