          • Hoping we can worship together

How did you all find the online service? I believe it was the best we could do given the circumstances, but it made me think what may possibly happen if we couldn’t go back to worshiping together at all.
First is individualism in our faith. Faith is about believers coming together to worship and praise, confess and pray, and creating a community. And it’s also creating heaven on earth through serving and volunteering for the worship service. However, if the online service continues, more of us will have individual-oriented faith due to the lack of a community-based environment. However, I’m grateful that we are not seeing this happen as much at our church thanks to our mokjangs.
Secondly, our faith will degenerate. In a survey conducted by Igood News titled “How do we worship online?”, a huge 43% replied that they worshiped using their smartphones. Smartphones can be convenient to worship anywhere anytime, but if this continued, soon, people may not worship at all or not be able to focus on their worship, and it will no longer be an important part of their lives. The survey also asked respondents whether they would attend service post-COVID-19 and 12% replied, only when they needed to, and 1.6% said they would not go to church anymore. This shows that COVID-19 has caused many of those without a deeply-rooted faith to eventually leave their faith for various reasons.
Last Wednesday, Pastor Yoon Youngok told us during his sermon that God had told his people not to worship “as they see fit” (Deuteronomy 12:8), but to “seek the place the Lord will choose and to go to that place” (Deuteronomy 12:5), but we may soon be worshiping as we see fit.
COVID-19 has not yet completely disappeared and there are still voices of concern in relation to holding offline services, and as a church, we must be extra careful. However, the government has further eased restrictions from 1st July and there is no longer limitations on the number of people allowed to gather, and only the four square meter rule applies. We can see that there are very few confirmed cases in NSW and people are very keen on leading their lives as normal. Our church is also trying to have offline church services and mokjang meetings, ensuring we follow the social distancing rule and other safety measures. I hope that we can all participate with grateful hearts despite some inconveniences.

            This week’s message
Starting next week, we will have the Sunday joint service at church. Please check the updated service times and participate at your designated time with your mokjang members.
