          • Preparation for a step-by-step mitigation strategy

The Australian Government has announced a step-by-step mitigation strategy for COVID-19. When you go outside, the streets are not as empty as before, and our church and mokjangs also should think about how to implement the changes.

The first level allows up to five visitors per home and up to ten people are allowed to gather at the church. During level 1, mokjangs with fewer number of people should start having offline gatherings. You can also meet together for the online Sunday service. For mokjangs with larger number of people, our Telopea and Granville church buildings may be available, and this must be pre-arranged. Ministry committees can start having their meetings at the church. We can now come to church during the week and also for the dawn prayer service.

Second level allows up to 20 people per gathering, and we are expecting this to take place quite soon. All mokjangs can then have their gatherings offline. The church service can also have 20 people, and mokjangs can meet for the online service as well as chowon meetings, chowon leaders’ meetings, and life classes.

Level three will allow up to 100 people, which means all mokjang gatherings as well as Telopea and Granville services can be held offline. However, every level will still require social distancing to be followed. This means that the 1st service which normally has more people attending will need to be separated and be held at different times. We most likely won’t be able to eat at church for the time being.

A pastor friend in Korea told me that rather than social distancing, many people are distancing themselves from God. At the beginning, we were nervous about the situation and were desperate for God but as I see myself becoming more relaxed, I realized many of our church members also could be the same. The day when we can finally gather is approaching. Let us prepare for it so that our gathering is a lively one in which we experience God’s grace.

            This week’s message
This week is Teacher’s week. I sincerely thank our ministers, mokjang leaders, and all Sunday school teachers for their service.
