          • Come to think of it, this is an opportunity

Recently, praying has made me cry. Listening to worship songs has made me cry, and even as prepare my sermon, I tear up. It can be a little embarrassing, but I just can’t help myself. It’s my body reacting to the desperation I feel in the current situation. It’s actually quite fortunate that as a pastor I have recovered my tears from being very emotionally dry. There’s nothing more tragic than a pastor who has dried up emotionally and is not capable of crying.
The church which used to be quite noisy is now dead quiet. When someone comes to visit, I would go out to greet them but we have to keep our distance. We have to keep our social distance and keep our conversations short. When I am preaching to an empty hall, I preach with a bigger desperation and I can feel tears and desires in the eyes of those who have come to set up the online service. Come to think of it, this is an opportunity. It’s made me think about how a true Christian should be, something I’d failed to realise before this desperation.
The world is now full of fear of death as everything that had been a source of trust is being destroyed. The world is in despair as they face financial shock and fear of COVID-19. However, as the saying that a crisis can be an opportunity, this will be an opportunity of a new door opening for some people.
As churches are closing, they are opening doors of opportunities in new ways. As a temporary measure, online services have replaced the way we worship and communicate, but it has awoken those who have been trapped inside the church building, changing our building-centered faith into a people-centered one. We have the gospel of life, and we must seek this opportunity. Rather than fearing COVID-19 and being in despair, we must pray for a new age, and doors of opportunities will open up for those who diligently prepare for it. We ourselves must be a living church and become God’s hands and feet, and earnestly hope to become a path of blessing, delivering the good news of life to the world.
