Jesus gave the twelve disciples the power to cast out unclean spirits and the ability to heal sickness, and gave them the mission to spread the [gospel of the kingdom of God]. However, Jesus commanded them to go first to the lost sheep, the Israelites, not to the Gentiles, and to tell them, “The kingdom of heaven has come near.”
The reason Jesus commanded this was not because he loved the Gentiles less, but because he wanted the [Israelites], chosen by God, to first gain faith and be saved. And he was hoping that they would testify of the gospel to the Gentiles as well.
Who is the lost sheep we need to find today? Who are our family and neighbors who strongly reject the gospel? God wants us to preach the gospel to them first.
Passage to read: Matthew 10:5-15
5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.
6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.
7 As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’”
