God is our owner. He is also the one who will save us from death.
However, instead of trusting in and relying on our God who has this power, many people live relying on and being afraid of the strong and powerful people of this world.
The people of Sukkoth and Peniel were like this. They made fun of Gideon who was tired from war, because they were more afraid of Midian's 2 kings than they were of God who was with Gideon's soldiers.
This is why the people of Sukkoth and Peniel meet punishment and death at the hands of Gideon. Fear the Lord. Trust in His power. The God that we believe in will defeat our enemies and heal us.
Passage: Judges 8:10-21
15 Then Gideon came and said to the men of Sukkoth, “Here are Zebah and Zalmunna, about whom you taunted me by saying, ‘Do you already have the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna in your possession? Why should we give bread to your exhausted men?’ ”
16 He took the elders of the town and taught the men of Sukkoth a lesson by punishing them with desert thorns and briers.
17 He also pulled down the tower of Peniel and killed the men of the town.
