Bildad calls Job to repentance with this verse familiar to us: ‘Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.’
It means that if Job acknowledged his sin, repented, and revered God again, he would gradually become prosperous again.
This may sound like good advice or teaching, but it’s not not exactly consoling.
Is someone you know going through grief or pain?
May we empathise with love, embrace and pray for them, rather than giving them advice or teaching.
Passage: Job 8:1-7
5 But if you will seek God earnestly and plead with the Almighty,
6 if you are pure and upright, even now he will rouse himself on your behalf and restore you to your prosperous state.
7 Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.
