Abimelek’s greed towards the throne sees him kill 70 of his brothers by tricking people, and he becomes king.
Since he had become king only through his greed, he was unable to rule righteously and was unable to look after his people the way a leader should.
Jesus came to earth as King and He looked out for the poor and weak and healed them, and became a true King that leads us to eternal life.
A true leader is someone that walks the path of Jesus, works hard to fulfil God’s will on earth, and looks around them to fill the needs of the soul and body.
Passage: Judges 9:1-15
4 They gave him seventy shekels of silver from the temple of Baal-Berith, and Abimelek used it to hire reckless scoundrels, who became his followers.
5 He went to his father’s home in Ophrah and on one stone murdered his seventy brothers, the sons of Jerub-Baal. But Jotham, the youngest son of Jerub-Baal, escaped by hiding.
6 Then all the citizens of Shechem and Beth Millo gathered beside the great tree at the pillar in Shechem to crown Abimelek king.
