          • God’s heart for the outcasts

At the time, the Jews avoided everything that the law considered filthy, including people. They considered anyone who didn’t follow the law dirty and even those who were with them.

But Jesus was often with those considered filthy. The Pharisees point out Jesus’ behaviour but He in turn rebukes them. What God wants from us isn’t to follow the law but rather a benevolent heart.

Let us look around for outcasts around us. Let us approach them with Jesus’ benevolent heart and share God’s heart with them.

            Passage: Matthew 9:1-13
10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.
11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
