The genealogy of Jesus who is the descendant of Abraham and David is introduced with the start of the New Testament.
God shows the fulfilment of the covenant that He made with Abraham and David in the Old Testament through Jesus Christ.
In the genealogy book, it seems as if the nation of Israel would fall and their salvation from long captivity would not occur, but to fulfill the covenant, God continues the genealogy of belief in God and through Jesus Christ achieves the covenant so that we can see the establishment of the kingdom of God.
I hope that as we too have become slaves to Jesus and have received salvation from being slaves to sin that we offer perfect obedience and wholly rely on Him as we live out the duty that God has called us for.

1 This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham:
17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
