The difference between an authoritative leader and a leader with authority
Authority is an important part of leadership. It gives the leader power and it makes people around them submit to them. However, the misuse of authority leads the people that are with them in the wrong direction and destroys the community.
Apostle Paul displays healthy authority in his community. It is authority of love. Although he could have treated people with authority, he served them with love. And his leadership of love made him a leader with authority and not an authoritative one.
I hope we can all become such leaders. When we serve those around us with love, God will establish us as leaders of authority and love.
Passage: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-9
7 Instead, we were like young children among you. Just as a nursing mother cares for her children,
8 so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.
