The law explains rules and methods God’s people should follow. When the rules are followed, God promises blessings. However, the ultimate purpose of the law is not blessings.
The law teaches us how to love God and how to love our neighbours. Thus, it teaches us what love is. Through the law, God wanted us to realise what love was and for us to practice it. He wanted us to keep the law not only to receive blessings but to realise the meaning of love and genuinely love one another.
We Christians should not stop at wishing for life’s blessings. As Jesus’ teaching, we must become disciples that love God and love our neighbours.
Passage: Deuteronomy 11:1-12
1 Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.
