          • What we mustn’t forget

Finally, as the Israelites are about to enter Canaan, the blessed land promised by God, Moses repeats the law and covenant to them. In Deuteronomy, the word ‘remember’ appears 14 times and ‘do not forget’ 12 times, and this is because the most important thing for the Israelites to live a blessed life in Canaan was to remember God. If they were to forget God, it would not be a blessed land but a cursed one.

As such, in order for us to lead blessed lives, the most important thing is to not forget God’s ways and will. When we follow worldly ways and values, we will forget God and move further away from his blessings. We must remember that a blessed life is one in which we are close to God and live by His ways.

Right now, everything has come to a stop because of COVID-19, and I hope that during this time, we can once again find God’s ways and will that we had forgotten about, and restore a life of blessings in us.

            Passage: Deuteronomy 1:9-18

16 And I charged your judges at that time, “Hear the disputes between your people and judge fairly, whether the case is between two Israelites or between an Israelite and a foreigner residing among you.
17 Do not show partiality in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of anyone, for judgment belongs to God. Bring me any case too hard for you, and I will hear it.”
18 And at that time I told you everything you were to do.

            1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
            2. What is God’s message to you?
            3. What do you need to obey?
            4. What are you grateful for today?
