Jesus asks his disciples after washing their feet, “Do you understand what I have done for you?” The disciples would have had two different responses to this: those who ‘understood’ and those who ‘didn’t’.
Jesus set an example of servanthood to his disciples. He wanted his disciples to not only ‘be served’, but ‘to serve’ others, just like him.
I’d like for us to also know the true meaning of servanthood. As the one with a calling, Jesus would want each of us to be his disciple and serve others.
God has promised a blessing to those who serve: Verse 17: “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”
Passage: John 13:12-20
15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
