For the Jews, the fact that they were Abraham’s children was very important, because of God’s promise that Abraham’s children will receive the Kingdom of God.
Thus, they firmly believed that being included in Abraham’s ‘family tree’ meant salvation.
However, Jesus points out that this is wrong faith. ‘Fake faith’ that is only confessed with the lips is not faith that leads to salvation.
Having faith in God, like Abraham, is genuine ‘faith’.
Today, many people believe that they will receive salvation simply by going to church.
But we need to think again through today’s passage. Do I have ‘faith’ like Abraham, having complete faith in God?
Let us examine our faith and become new before God.
Passage: John 8:21-47
39 “Abraham is our father,” they answered.
“If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do what Abraham did.
40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
