The Israelites continued to make the mistake of being complacent in their relationships with God. God wanted to teach them His way through the law and through numerous prophets but the Israelites only obeyed His commandments in its literal form and didn’t understand God’s true intention. They appeared to be God’s people on the outside but they were no different to foreigners.
We must be careful not to make the same mistake. If we are praying a lot and spending a lot of time praising and worshiping God but are complacent in our relationship with Him, our faith is in danger. What God wants from us is not extravagant worship or knowledge. He wants our sincerity.
Passage: Jeremiah 7:1-15
5 If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly,
6 if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not follow other gods to your own harm,
7 then I will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your ancestors for ever and ever.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
