If you don’t want to be a hypocritical believer, you need to look within yourself and always search for the motives of your heart. One of the reasons we fall into temptation is due to wrong motives within our heart. Jesus saw the motives within the hearts of the teachers of the law. They liked the respect, the importance, and the social status the role gave them. Their hearts were full of lies and greed. On the other hand, Jesus also saw the motives of the poor widow. Jesus saw the sincerity, love and devotion of her prayer as she gave her offering. To be a true christian, we need to reflect on our motives against the word of God.
Passage to read: Mark 12:35-44
38 As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces,
39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 40 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”
41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.
