Go and find empty jars! (2 Kings 4:1-7)
One day, the wife of one of the prophets comes to Elisha. She cries and says that her husband has died. To make matters worse, his creditors will take her two sons as slaves if she doesn’t pay his debt.
Elisha asks her, “what do you have left in your house?”
She tells him she has nothing but “a jar of olive oil”.
Elisha tells the woman to go around and ask her neighbours for empty jars.
He tells her to then pour oil into those empty jars.
A miracle happened when she obeyed.
As she started pouring oil into the empty jars...
If you want to encounter a miracle...
You must find your empty jar.
You might be thinking that you’ve got too much of your own problems and can’t afford to help others, but God is telling you to find empty jars to pour the small amount of olive oil that may not even be enough for yourself.
The empty jars of those who have been afflicted and are sick and whose hearts are empty...
Those who do not know God and have no hope or the gospel...
And pour into them what you have,
“Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Pour oil into all the jars...” (2 Kings 4:1-7)
