          • Let Us Practice the Language of Heaven

In a recent sermon, I spoke about “living in the language of heaven in the present.” Many people think of heaven as a “future” place they go only after they die. And, so they live out their today in darkness and conflict. But the Bible tells us that the kingdom of heaven has already begun on this earth with the coming of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we must live out heaven from this earth — in the “present” — and that is the mark of a true believer.
There are two great factors that determine our lives. The first is our “way of living,” and the second is our “language.” These two things alone reveal whether we are living in heaven or still belonging to the world. If we have become citizens of God’s kingdom, we must live differently than before — but this does not happen on its own. It requires constant “practice.” The reason our lives have not changed even as we attend church is precisely because we had no “place” to train for the life of heaven. The house church is precious because it is the place where we practice the life of heaven. Language is the most certain tool that proves who we are. Just a few words can immediately reveal whether a person is living in heaven or in the world. Therefore, from today we must practice three “languages of heaven” in our house churches.
First, “Amen.” This is because the most frequently used word in heaven is “Amen,” which gives glory to God. Amen is a holy response — “Truly, surely, may it be so” — that flows from the hearts of those who love God.
Second, “Gratitude.” In heaven, there is nothing but thanksgiving every day, because everything is grace. On the other hand, if there are words that are never used in heaven, they would be “complaint” and “curse.” Words that encapsulate such negativity are insults or profanity—these are the language of hell. I encourage you to practice words of gratitude and encouragement in your community.
Third, “Admiration.” Life in heaven is new every day and full of wonder. Just as children clap and exclaim “Wow!” when they see something good, we too should marvel at God’s work in each other’s lives. May expressions of positive admiration such as “That is truly precious!” and “How amazing!” be abundant in your house church.
May our house churches become holy training grounds where we practice these languages of heaven. When we use the language of heaven, our house churches will experience the happiest heaven on this earth.
