The house church is the core and an important value of the House Church ministry. For children growing up within the House Church ministry, it is a great blessing when the faith of their parents is naturally passed down to them.
However, sometimes challenges arise because of young children in the house church. When there are many children, it can make it difficult to run the meeting smoothly. I believe that our attitude toward the children in the house church is very important. We should see them not as “someone else’s child,” but as “a family member of my house church”. At times, children may interrupt the flow of the meeting, but if we think of them as family members of the house church and also as VIPs who may not yet have accepted Jesus, they will no longer be seen as a burden or a problem. Instead, they become a blessing and a precious opportunity for service and grace. Children who grow up in this kind of environment will one day become shepherds and shepherds’ partners, living as disciples of Jesus who save souls and follow their calling.
We should think of the children who come to the house church as being raised together by the whole community, and they should also be trained. It would be helpful to create simple rules for house church meetings and have the children repeat them regularly. They should also be prepared beforehand so they can participate well in the children’s house church and share prayer requests during the Olive Blessing time. When praying blessings over them, we should pray with expectation, envisioning their future in specific ways. When it is necessary to care for children during difficult situations in the meeting, it should not be left only to the shepherd and shepherd’s partner. Instead, the house church members should take turns in caring for them.
When children who have been attending the children’s house church grow into teenagers, some may wonder whether they should attend youth house church meetings only. The children themselves may even think that they no longer need to attend the children’s house church. However, one of the most important purposes of the house church is that faith is shared and passed on to the next generation. If the youth house church meeting overlaps in time, they should of course attend the youth house church. Otherwise, they can continue to participate in the house church. They may help care for younger children or, depending on the situation, join the adults in sharing during the meeting.
In this way, I hope that every house church will naturally pass on faith to the next generation and become a place where the warmth of a family is shared.
Word of the week
There is a Receiving Jesus Meeting on the last Sunday of every month. Everyone who has registered with the church is asked to attend this meeting at least once. Those who already believe in Jesus can confirm their salvation, and those who do not yet believe will have the opportunity to receive Jesus.
