          • Commitment Time

After each sermon, we must all have a time of personal commitment and determination. If we hear a good sermon and are moved by it, without making personal determination and commitment, the sermon is nothing more than a good speech. Therefore, one of the most important part of service is commitment time. This is when we respond to what God has spoken to us about. However, many of us hesitate to make commitments after the sermon. Some may feel shy about coming to the front, but many lack understanding of what commitment and determination mean.
There are many reasons people hesitate. They may not feel comfortable and feel shy about being at the front and they may also not feel confident about living up to the commitments they have made. Commitment is responding to God’s Word and confessing our hearts to Him. When we confess our hearts to God, He gives us strength to live up to our commitments.
You may wonder if it’s so necessary to come to the front rather than just making our commitments and determinations in our hearts, however there is a difference when you are at the front. Our confessions of commitment to God is clearly delivered to Him.
In order for us to act upon our commitments, it’s important that they are specific. Abstract commitments are difficult to act upon. So find something you are able to achieve during the week so you can experience it in your daily life.
Also, the more often you make commitments, the better it is. Rather than leaving the service as soon as it ends, build your courage and take part in commitment time before you leave.

This has been taken from Pastor Kim Jaejung's column.
