There are currently six chowons in Sydney Crystal Church and every chowon has five to seven mokjangs. A chowon moim is the same as a mokjang moim, but for mokjas and moknyos. Chowon leaders mentor their mokjas and support them in the running of their mokjangs. Hence, having too many mokjas and moknyos in a chowon makes it difficult for the chowon leaders to help them. Since last year, we have tried to divide some chowons, but have yet to proceed due to challenges we have faced.
At our last chowon leaders’ meeting we had reached a decision to restructure chowons altogether and chose candidates for potential chowon leaders. However, the majority of mokjas preferred to divide existing chowons and the following has been concluded:
First of all, all the mokjas have agreed to divide chowons rather than restructure as a whole and the division of each chowon will take place separately when each chowon is ready for the division.
Secondly, we have identified a need for more chowons for single mokjangs, so some mokjangs have willingly volunteered to transfer to single chowons in order to support them.
Thirdly, the English service will also have their own chowon and is currently in the process of creating one.
Lastly, we have allowed mokjas and moknyos to decide which chowon they wish to belong to, with the chowon leader’s approval. We believe this will also help them in their ministries in the church. When mokjangs undergo division, the new mokja and moknyos will also be able to decide which chowon to go to.
