Christian life checklist
Many people think that their faith will grow naturally if they attend church, but this is far from true. If you don’t have the right foundation of Christianity and don’t lead a faithful life, no matter how long you attend church, you will not experience spiritual growth and maturity. I have created a checklist of basic things we need to do in order for our faith to grow and develop.
First, do I come to church with anticipation? This means praying for the upcoming service throughout the week and expecting to meet God and hear from Him during the sermon. We also need to prepare for the service by arriving at least 10 minutes early and get ourselves ready. We sing, pray and listen to the sermon to try and focus on God.
Secondly, am I applying God’s words from the sermon in my life? It’s important for us to realise whether or not God’s words influence our lives. We need to make sure that throughout the week, our lives are in line with what was preached and by obeying and applying God’s words, we experience positive changes in our lives and we experience God’s interventions. Just knowing a lot of Scripture has nothing to do with your spiritual maturity. And I strongly recommend participating in recommiting yourselves after the service.
Thirdly, do I ever make time for God? You must set aside time daily to meet with God and listen to Him and in order to do this effectively, attending dawn prayers a couple of times a week can be helpful.
Lastly, do I have a healthy relationship with my fellow small group members? It needs to be a relationship in which love for one another is reciprocated everyone serves and prays for each other. When this is achieved, people’s hearts are healed and they experience joy and happiness.
In order for our faith to grow, we need to repeat these four steps every week and we will be able to experience positive changes in our lives.
